We started the summer with a road trip to South Dakota. We had a fabulous trip. Stuart and Elva and Annie and Carin went with us. The trip was long but fun. We stopped at Independence Rock and the Martin Harris Home. Trevor was pretty sick during the trip up there but still tried to have fun. We made it into Rapid City, SD around dinner time and go to our hotel. Boy hotels are nicer than a tent. Did I mention that it was raining! The only bad thing was that the pool was outside but the kids didn't care. 60 degrees didn't even bother them. Brrr. The next day we drove to try and see something but the storm was pretty bad and we didn't see much that was higher than the trees.(i.e. Mount Rushmore). We did see tons of animals, like bison, antelopes, praire dogs (there were millions of this little critters), big horn sheep. The animals were right by the side of the road and very fun to watch.
During the trip we finally saw Mount Rushmore, what a spectacular thing to see. It was a beautiful day and the sky was blue. What a great day that was. We tried to see Crazy horse but the storm was too low and the price was outrageous. Not worth it really. We went to this park called Story Book Island. Cool place. The kids loved it as well as us adults. Every story book creature you could think of had a place here. After hearing and learning about so much history it was fun for the kids just to play. We also went to Dinosaur Park, which is just a little place with great big cement dinosaurs to play and climb on. We visited the wind caves but showed up too late to go inside them. But it looked cool. If you're ever thinking of a incredible place to visit go the South Dakota it's really awesome.
